ABSTRACT
This talk covers the recent development in two important areas which are soft fibrillar materials and functional particles. Soft fibrillar materials have important applications in many fields such as tissue engineering and functional foods. The fiber network structure determines the mechanical properties and application performance of these materials. In this context, significant efforts have been devoted to the production of soft materials with desirable fiber structures. However, chemical approaches have been generally applied, which are laborious with low efficiency. In this presentation, novel strategies developed to engineer fiber networks on the basis of the nucleation and crystallization mechanism of fiber formation will be discussed. These physical strategies make it convenient to tune the fiber network structures in soft materials by simply manipulating the thermodynamic driving force and kinetics of fiber nucleation. Fibrillar materials made of small molecular gelators and natural silk proteins will be used to illustrate the strategies. In addition,the applications of functional particles in two new areas which are photothermal cancer treatment and protective coating (for corrosion inhibition) will also be presented. Critical factors governing the applications of particles in these fields will be analysed.
Curriculum Vitae
李景亮博士,迪肯(Deakin)大学前沿材料研究所,Australia Research Council Future Fellow。2004年新加坡国立大学获博士学位。主要从事纤维丝材料的物性研究以及纳米材料的生物医学应用研究,发表学术论文70余篇,被引用1300余次,H-index 20。近年来的工作集中在超分子软纤维的成核生长机理和结构工程以及纳米颗粒在生物医学成像和癌症治疗等方面,一些重要研究结果发表在国际知名学术期刊 Adv. Mater., Angew. Chem. Int. ed., Adv. Funct. Mater., Biomaterials, Soft Matter 等,在软纤维丝材料制备及应用方面著书一部 (Liu, X. Y. and Li, J.L. Soft Fibrillar Materials: fabrication and applications. Wiley-VCH, Weinheim, Germany, published in Oct. 2013, ISBN: 978-3527331628)。
